Il Borgo is one of the first Super Tuscans: the first vintage was 1982, created after a trip by Ambrogio Folonari to Burgundy, right at the turning point that took Tuscan wine towards new styles. Tenute del Cabreo lie in Greve in Chianti, between Zano and Panzano. The name recalls the cabrei, old estate inventories illustrated with hand-drawn maps.
The wine is a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon from selected vineyards on clay soils rich in stones. After a long maceration in steel it spends an extended period in barrique, followed by bottle ageing before release.
2019 is a very balanced vintage in Tuscany. The wine combines the cherry fruit and freshness of Sangiovese with the structure, blackcurrant and spice of Cabernet, with velvety tannins and a persistent finish. A classic Tuscan blend with long ageing potential, for red meat, game and aged cheeses.
