Luce 2020 – Tenuta Luce

Luce was born in 1993 from the meeting of Vittorio Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi, and was the first Montalcino wine to blend Sangiovese and Merlot; the first two vintages, 1993 and 1994, were released together in 1997. Since 2004 the estate has been wholly owned by the Frescobaldi family, led by Lamberto. The sun with twelve flaming rays on the label is inspired by the altar of Santo Spirito in Florence.

The vineyards lie on Montalcino's south-west slopes, between 230 and 430 metres: Sangiovese on the higher galestro, Merlot on the lower clays. After fermentation with native yeasts, the wine ages for twenty-four months in mostly new French barriques and six months in bottle.

2020, after a beautiful spring, produced a rich, harmonious Luce: black cherry, plum, sweet spice and cocoa, combining Sangiovese's structure with Merlot's softness. One of the great international-style Tuscan reds, to drink now or cellar. With braised meats, game and aged cheeses.
