Margherita Otto is the small project of Alan Manley, an American of Swiss descent who, after more than ten years working for leading Langhe producers, began bottling his own wine with the 2015 vintage. The name honours his grandparents. The winery is at Monforte d'Alba and the style is openly traditional.
The Langhe Nebbiolo comes from the Vignane vineyard in Barolo plus some declassified fruit from the Barolo parcels. Winemaking is simple, in steel with pump-overs, and ageing takes place in large casks, with no small oak.
2021, a balanced, classic Langhe vintage, gives a bright Nebbiolo built on finesse: crunchy cherry, raspberry, rose petals, light spice and an earthy note, with fine tannins and a taut palate. A handcrafted Langhe Nebbiolo made in tiny quantities, to drink now or keep for a few years. With tajarin, vitello tonnato, white meats and fresh cheeses.
