Cantina Terlano, founded in 1893, is the Alto Adige cooperative that has done more than any other to show that Italian whites can age for decades. Nova Domus is one of its flagship Riservas: a blend in the tradition of Terlaner, Terlano's historic white, built on Pinot Bianco with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
The vineyards rise from 300 metres for the Chardonnay and Sauvignon to 500-600 metres for the Pinot Bianco, facing south and south-west, on sandy soils of volcanic quartz porphyry, which give Terlano's wines their typical savoury tension. After gentle whole-bunch pressing, the wine ferments slowly in large oak casks and ages there on its lees for about a year.
The 2022 is still young: yellow fruit, citrus, herbs, a hint of flint and a broad yet vertical palate. It has more than a decade of development ahead. One of Italy's great age-worthy whites. With shellfish, risotto, baked fish, white meats and medium-aged cheeses.
