Villa Le Corti, at San Casciano Val di Pesa, is the Chianti estate of the Corsini princes, one of Florence's great families. Zac is their pure Sangiovese made outside the Chianti Classico rules: the name is the affectionate nickname given by nieces, nephews and their children to Anna Corsini, sister of Prince Tommaso. The first vintage was 2008.
The grapes come from a single south-facing vineyard, Le Gugliaie, of about two and a half hectares. The wine ages for around eighteen months mostly in used barriques, so that the oak supports rather than masks the fruit, then rests at length in bottle.
2015, a warm and generous vintage, gave a full, harmonious Sangiovese, now in a lovely phase of maturity: ripe cherry, plum, spice, tobacco and a touch of leather, with fine tannins and good savouriness. With steak, roasts, game and aged pecorino.
