Castellare di Castellina is Paolo Panerai's estate in the heart of Chianti Classico, known for championing Sangioveto, the old local name for Sangiovese, and for labels that portray a different bird every year. 30 Vendemmie is a celebratory edition, created to mark thirty harvests at the estate.
It shares the philosophy of the renowned I Sodi di San Niccolò: vineyards on the galestro soils of Castellina in Chianti, Sangioveto alongside complementary varieties such as Malvasia Nera, careful vinification and long ageing in wood before release. It is a blend of the estate's three flagship wines, I Sodi di San Niccolò, Coniale and Poggio ai Merli: Sangioveto and Malvasia Nera together with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
2007 was a warm, generous vintage in Chianti Classico. The wine is now fully mature: cherries in spirit, dried violet, leather, tobacco and spice, with tannins that have become polished. A rare collector's bottle to open with braised meats, game, red meat roasts and aged cheeses.
