Barbaresco Martinenga 2019 – Marchesi di Gresy

Martinenga is one of Barbaresco's most famous crus and one of the few Langhe vineyards owned entirely by a single family: it belongs to the Tenuta Cisa Asinari dei Marchesi di Gresy. Almost 12 hectares form an amphitheatre in the heart of the Barbaresco commune, squeezed between two legendary names, Asili to the west and Rabajà to the north-east.

The vines lie between 220 and 290 metres, facing south and south-west. After a long maceration the wine spends about a year in French barriques of various ages and another year in Slavonian oak casks, then rests in bottle before release.

2019 is a classic, very balanced vintage in the Langhe. Cherry, raspberry, rose, spice and a touch of liquorice, with fine tannins and lovely tension. Enjoyable already, with many years ahead of it. With truffle tajarin, beef braised in Barolo, roasts and aged cheeses.
