Marcarini is one of the historic wineries of La Morra, best known for its Brunate, bottled under that name since 1958. La Serra is the estate's other cru: a vineyard of around four hectares in the upper part of the commune, giving a more delicate and perfumed Barolo.
It sits at around 380 metres, facing south and south-west, on calcareous clay soils rich in magnesium, with steady breezes that keep the grapes fresh. Ripening is a little later than in neighbouring sites. The cellar style is proudly traditional: long macerations and at least two years in medium-sized oak casks.
2012 was a warm vintage that produced generous, approachable Barolos. More than ten years on, the wine has reached maturity: rose, violet, red fruit, liquorice and sweet spice, with tertiary tones and tannins now polished. With tajarin and truffle, braised meats and aged cheeses.
