Capannelle is a small estate in the hills of Gaiole in Chianti, founded in the mid-1970s with a clear idea: a few wines, crafted like artisan objects. The same winemaker, Simone Monciatti, has been in the cellar for over forty years, and that continuity shows in a restrained style that stays consistent from vintage to vintage.
The Gran Selezione is the top of their Chianti Classico range: Sangiovese from the Gaiole vineyards, one of the highest and coolest parts of the appellation, carefully selected and given long ageing in wood before release. The result is a Chianti of great definition, with the acidity typical of the Gaiole side.
2018 is an elegant vintage, less concentrated than the hot years but very refined. In the glass: cherry, violet, spice and a touch of vanilla, well-drawn tannins and a savoury finish. With bistecca alla fiorentina, roasts, pappardelle with wild boar or aged pecorino.
At a glance: Sangiovese 100% · 14.5% ABV · 0.75 l · Capannelle, Gaiole in Chianti (SI)
