A library bottle from the Maga family of Broni, who have made wine in the Oltrepò Pavese since the 19th century and, with commendatore Lino, became a legend of Italian artisan wine. Montebuono is the cru alongside the famous Barbacarlo; this 1986 label carries the Vino Rosso DOC wording of the time.
Even then the method was the one the estate still follows today: the traditional grapes of the Broni hills, Croatina, Uva Rara and Vespolina, spontaneous fermentation in old casks and bottling without filtration, with no search for uniformity between vintages.
After almost forty years one can expect a fully developed wine, with tertiary aromas of dried fruit, leather, forest floor, tobacco and spice, supported by the acidity typical of these grapes; the condition of each bottle depends on its history. A collector's piece, testimony to a way of making wine that has almost disappeared.
