Bartolo Mascarello is one of the emblematic names of traditional Barolo. Bartolo, who died in 2005, defended the blending of several vineyards and large casks all his life, famously also through his hand-drawn labels; today his daughter Maria Teresa follows the same path, with small, much sought-after production.
The Langhe Nebbiolo comes from the estate's vineyards in Barolo, mainly the younger vines, and follows the same method as the Barolo: long macerations in concrete and ageing in large oak casks. It is not a fallback wine but a classic Nebbiolo, just readier to drink.
2020 is a warm but balanced vintage, with generous fruit and soft tannins. In the glass cherry, raspberry, rose, spice and a hint of liquorice, with a juicy palate that is already harmonious. The most direct way into the Mascarello style. With tajarin, vitello tonnato, white meats or medium-aged cheeses.
