Castello dei Rampolla is the Di Napoli family estate in the Panzano basin in Chianti Classico, family land since 1739. In 1980 Alceo di Napoli, working with Giacomo Tachis, planted Cabernet Sauvignon in an area long devoted to Sangiovese: the result was Sammarco, first vintage 1982, one of Chianti's historic Super Tuscans.
It is a red based largely on Cabernet Sauvignon, completed by a small share of other grapes. In 1994 the estate began converting to biodynamics and became one of its benchmarks in Tuscany. The wine matures in oak and then for a long time in bottle before release.
2000, a warm vintage, produced a generous wine that, more than twenty years on, is fully in its tertiary phase: evolved cassis and plum, tobacco, leather, graphite and dried herbs. A piece of history among Tuscan Bordeaux blends. With game, pepper steak and long-aged cheeses.
