Barbaresco 2007 – Gaja

Barbaresco is the wine where it all began for Gaja: the winery was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja in Barbaresco itself, and Angelo Gaja turned it into one of the best-known Italian names in the world. While the historic single vineyards were reclassified for some years and later brought back into the DOCG, the "classic" Barbaresco has always remained the heart of the range.

It comes from several estate vineyards in the commune of Barbaresco, blended to express the character of the village rather than a single cru. The wine matures in wood, first in barriques and then in large casks, in the style Gaja introduced to the Langhe.

2007 was a warm, early vintage that produced generous, open Nebbiolos. Today the wine is mature: sour cherry, dried rose, liquorice, tobacco and spice, with integrated tannins and fine persistence. One of the benchmark Barbarescos, alongside Bruno Giacosa. With tajarin with truffle, braised beef and aged cheeses.
