Aminta is the Cecchi family's new venture in Montalcino, from the long-established wine house based in Castellina in Chianti. The name has a threefold meaning: Anita, mother of Andrea and Cesare Cecchi, Monte Amiata, which shelters the estate and shapes its climate, and Torquato Tasso's pastoral play of the same title.
The estate lies near Castelnuovo dell'Abate, in the south-eastern part of the appellation: six hectares split into three parcels, Pian Bossolino, Cantina and Caselle, on varied soils of galestro, pietraforte and sands. Amiata brings good day-night temperature swings, precious for Sangiovese's freshness. Production is small, just a few thousand bottles.
The 2020 opens with berries, rose and pomegranate, followed by liquorice, undergrowth and spice. The palate has body but also agility, with dense tannins and a long finish. A Brunello worth following from its debut, to open with braised meats, game and aged cheeses.
