Tommasi was founded in 1902 in Pedemonte, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, and is still run by the family, who over time have added estates in other Italian regions. The Amarone Classico is the house's signature wine and a benchmark of the traditional Veronese style.
The grapes come from the La Groletta and Conca d'Oro crus in the hills of the Classico zone: 50% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 15% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta. Hand-picked and sorted, they dry for three months in a ventilated loft; fermentation lasts 25 days in stainless steel, then the wine matures for three years in large 35 and 65 hl Slavonian oak casks.
2021 brought a cold winter, a balanced spring and a mild summer, with harvest from late September to early October: wines of finesse and great ageing potential. On the nose ripe plum, cherry and blackberry, then cocoa, sweet tobacco and fine spice; the palate has silky tannins and an elegant balsamic finish. With game, braised beef, roast venison, aged Parmesan and mushroom dishes.
