Barolo Prapò 2013 – Ettore Germano

Ettore Germano is a family winery in Serralunga d'Alba, run since 1993 by Sergio Germano and his wife Elena; Sergio is also known for bringing Riesling and traditional-method sparkling wine to the Alta Langa. Among his Barolos, Prapò is the most prestigious cru.

The vineyard, also known as Pra di Po', is a sunny amphitheatre ranging from east to south-facing, on the calcareous marls typical of Serralunga. A long maceration on the skins gives the wine structure and depth, and ageing in wood completes a Barolo of classic style.

2013 is a cool, late vintage, one of the most classic of the decade, which in Serralunga gave taut, long-lived wines. Today Prapò shows red fruit, rose, spice and tertiary notes, with dense tannins that are beginning to relax. Pair it with braised meats, game and aged cheeses.
