Le Ragnaie is the estate of Riccardo Campinoti, who took it over in 2002 and made it one of the most admired names in artisanal Montalcino. The vineyards are spread across different parts of the zone, including some of the highest in the appellation, and each cru is bottled separately only when the vintage deserves it.
Casanovina Montosoli is a vineyard of about one hectare on the hill of Montosoli, north of the town, one of Brunello's historic crus; the wine has been made since the 2015 vintage. It is vinified like all the house Brunellos: spontaneous fermentation in concrete, long macerations and about 36 months in large Slavonian oak casks, with no barriques.
2018 is a cooler, less powerful vintage than those before it, rewarding careful producers with fine, aromatic wines. In the glass, cherry, blood orange, herbs, forest floor and spice, with fine tannins and lovely acidity. A classic-style single-cru Brunello made in just a few thousand bottles. With roasts, game or aged pecorino.
