Montebuono is the other wine from the Maga family in Broni, Oltrepò Pavese, the estate made famous by Barbacarlo and by its stubborn guardian, Lino Maga. It comes from the vineyard of the same name, owned by the family since the eighteenth century, and for many enthusiasts it has nothing to envy its more famous sibling.
The vineyard lies on the steep tufaceous hills of Broni, planted with Croatina, Uva Rara and Ughetta (Vespolina). The method is as it has always been: spontaneous fermentation in old oak casks, no selected yeasts, no filtration. The wine may show a light natural spritz, more or less present depending on the vintage.
Almost ten years after harvest, the 2016 has lost its youthful vigour and shows ripe red fruit, dried herbs, spice and earthy notes, always with the house's frank freshness. A handcrafted, unconventional red. With salumi, risotto, boiled meats and Oltrepò cheeses.
