Capannelle was born in 1974, when Raffaele Rossetti bought a 16th-century villa with a few hectares of land at Gaiole in Chianti; since 1997 it has belonged to the family of James Sherwood, founder of Orient-Express Hotels. Solare was conceived in 1990 together with Giorgio Pinchiorri, owner of Florence's Enoteca Pinchiorri, and first released in 1996.
It is a blend of Sangiovese and Malvasia Nera, a traditional Chianti pairing, fermented in conical oak vats and then aged for about eighteen months in French oak barriques. A Super Tuscan made entirely from native grapes, built to last.
2015, a warm, sunny vintage in Tuscany, produced a rich, harmonious wine: ripe cherry, plum, sweet spice, cocoa and a hint of tobacco, with enveloping tannins and Sangiovese's freshness keeping pace. Already drinking well, with more road ahead. With bistecca alla fiorentina, roasts, game and aged cheeses.
