Tenuta Luce was born in the 1990s from the meeting of Vittorio Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi, with the aim of creating a great modern red in Montalcino: Luce. Today the estate belongs entirely to the Frescobaldi family and, alongside the wine that gives it its name, it makes a more classic-style Brunello di Montalcino from pure Sangiovese.
Of more than 90 hectares under vine, only a small part is registered for Brunello; the grapes come mainly from the Madonnino vineyard, on galestro with a fine exposure. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts and ageing in Slavonian oak casks, followed by long bottle ageing before release.
2016 is one of Montalcino's great recent vintages, fresh and balanced, giving wines of structure and precision. In the glass, ripe cherry, violet, herbs, spice and leather, with dense tannins and long persistence. Already good now, with years of evolution still ahead. With steak, braised meats, pici with wild boar ragù or aged pecorino.
