Lux Vitis is the Cabernet of Tenuta Luce, the Frescobaldi estate in Montalcino born in the 1990s from the meeting of Vittorio Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi. Alongside Luce and the Brunello, it shows how an international variety can speak the language of Montalcino; the Latin name means "light of the vine".
It comes from about three hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 2004 on sandy soils, completed by a small share of Sangiovese. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts, gentle pressing, then 24 months in new French oak barriques.
2020, a warm but balanced year, produced a dark, compact wine: cassis, blackberry, cocoa, spice and a touch of Mediterranean herbs, with dense, velvety tannins and Sangiovese bringing freshness to the finish. It can already please with plenty of air, but it has many years ahead. A Tuscan Cabernet to set beside the great names of Bolgheri. With lamb, rib steak or game.
