Tenuta Luce is the Montalcino estate born from the meeting of Vittorio Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi, now wholly owned by the Frescobaldi family and best known for Luce, a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot. Lux Vitis, Latin for "light of the vine", is its most exclusive wine, made in small quantities.
It comes from a small Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard of about three hectares, planted in 2004 on sandy, mixed soils that give the grape an elegant expression, completed by a share of Sangiovese. It ages for 24 months in new French oak barriques.
2019 was a balanced vintage in Montalcino, giving wines of good freshness and structure. In the glass Cabernet brings black fruit, spice and chocolate, while Sangiovese adds cherry and liveliness; the tannins are velvety and the finish long. A top-flight Tuscan Cabernet, far from the Montalcino clichés. With fillet steak, lamb, game or aged cheeses.
At a glance: Cabernet Sauvignon 90%, Sangiovese 10% · 14.5% ABV · 0.75 l · Tenuta Luce - Frescobaldi, Montalcino (SI)
